The Ultimate Guide to Hot Tub Jets

by | Jul 18, 2022

One of the best parts of getting into a hot tub after a long day of work is feeling the amazing massage from your hot tub’s jets on your back. But with so many options available, it can be hard to know what to look for in a hot tub jetting system. Here is a quick guide to everything you need to know about hot tub jets.

Style of Jet

There are lots of different styles of jets out there. Directional jets, which are jets that only shoot water in one single direction, above water jets, which spray water from above the surface down to the water, and rotating jets, which push water out in a circular spinning motion, are the most common style of jets.

Directional jets can have a wide range of hole sizes that push out different amounts of water. Nonetheless, because there is no break in water flow, after a few minutes of sitting in front of these jets your skin can start to get irritated and itchy.

Above surface jets are often used as neck and back massagers. The issue with these jets is that if the pressure is too strong, the water will splash on your face, but if the water pressure isn’t that strong then it doesn’t give much of a massage.

The best jets are rotational jets that have something to stop the water flow as it spins. This spinning motion mimics massage techniques used by massage therapists to increase circulation and release tension in your muscles.

Size of Jets

The style of the jet is the most important factor in how good of a massage a jet gives, but size also plays a role. The general rule when it comes to jets is: the bigger the better. Smaller jets can sometimes focus too much on one portion of your skin which causes them to have the same effect as directional jets, leaving your skin itchy and irritated.

Number of Jets

The number one question people have about hot tub jets is always how many they should have. The reason for that is that there is not one straight answer to that question. The perfect number of jets for your hot tub depends on a couple of things.

The first thing you need to think about is how much you like jets. Some people absolutely love jets and want them on every single part of their body, other people like jets, but don’t necessarily need 20 jets just for themselves, and then there are people who don’t really like jets at all. Figuring out where you lie on that spectrum will help you to start figuring out how many jets you need in your hot tub.

The next important thing to consider is how big your hot tub is. Twenty jets in a small two person hot tub can seem like a lot, but in a large nine person hot tub, 20 jets can seem like nothing. The bigger your hot tub is, the more jets you will need to fill it up.

Another thing to think about is the placement of the jets in the hot tub. The most common jet placements are for your back and shoulders, however, if you have bad hips, you should get a hot tub that has hip massagers. One jet in the right spot can be worth a lot more than eight jets in the wrong spot.

A lot of jets are great, but they won’t do much if they don’t have enough power. Jet pressure is very important and can make or break your massage. Every 20 jets in your hot tub should have their own pump to make sure that they have enough pressure to give you a good massage
